A five-year-old girl has been killed in cold blood by her parents after being abducted and raped by an unidentified individual in the Al-Shahba area of Syria last November. It is what is called an “honor killing.”
5-year-old girl is killed “for honor” by her parents after being raped by stranger
The little girl’s parents deny it, but several family members have been arrested and investigations are already underway, reports the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The girl’s body was found in a dumpster in Manbij, in the north of the country, on January 27, before being transferred to Al Furat Hospital in eastern Aleppo.
The girl was abducted by a stranger driving a motorcycle after she left her home to meet her father in the local olive groves. After a search, the girl was found near a road between the villages of Deir Jamil and Kafr Naha, according to SOHR. It has not yet been confirmed when the little girl was killed.
The SOHR has now called on the authorities to ensure that the child’s killers are brought to justice amid a series of “honor killings” in the country, ‘Daily Mail’ reports.
16-year-old strangled by father after being raped by relative
Just days after the video of Eida’s murder surfaced on social media, another 16-year-old teenager was strangled to death by her father in another so-called “honor killing” after a relative raped her. The girl was identified as Aya Muhammad Khalifo by the Rape Documentation Center in northern Syria.
Following the killings, hundreds of women protested against the ‘honor killings’ in the city of Hasakeh by marching through the streets. Protester Evin Bacho, a member of the Kurdish feminist group Kongra Star, said, “We condemn these crimes in the name of tradition or religion.”
