In Washington state, a pedophile who claimed to be a woman was held without checks in a women’s prison, where he allegedly raped a female cellmate sometime later.

Under local law, prisoners who identify themselves as women may be admitted to a women’s prison.

Theoretically, those who define themselves as transgender must present a strong argument to justify their request for confinement in a women’s prison, but in fact the requirements are minimal, explained Scott Fleming, a former prison warden.

“The only requirement is that they state that they identify as female,” Fleming said.

This is the case of Hobby Bingham, who after being incarcerated for sexual contact with a minor declared that he identified himself as a woman and decided to call himself Andromeda Love.

Transferred to a women’s prison, he was found there unclothed with his cellmate, Heather Lee Ann Trent. Because in the prison system all sexual relations are considered non-consensual, Trent would have technically been raped.

Upon serving his sentence and being released from prison, Bingham cut his hair and began calling himself a man again.

According to Fleming, the prison staff ignored the alleged rape, without applying for an expert report or filing an incident report. The former guard considered that “it was very irresponsible on the part of the state to put them together in the same cell.”

“This is just the beginning, as about 150 more prisoners are scheduled to arrive from men’s prisons across the state,” he added.
