You can practically find all kinds of women and men to satisfy your gentler or wilder desires. Although these workers have several clients every day, they are no match for the oldest crew in the district.

Twin sisters Louise and Martine Fokken have more than a century of experience between them and were crowned with the title of the district’s “oldest window girls” in 2012, before their retirement.

They made a documentary about them called Meet the Fokkens and also a book detailing their incredible lives.

However, it would come as no surprise to some that these septuagenarian sisters have served more than 335,000 customers in their long career. Speaking to La Guardia, Louise explained how she got into the sex industry.

“My husband beat me on the street when I was 20 years old,” she said. “He told me that if I didn’t make money for him he would leave me, and since I had children and loved him, I had to do it.”

Martine was giving birth to her first child when she was told that her twin sister was working in the famous storefronts. She didn’t realize that Louise was in such a difficult financial situation, so she offered to help.

Martine recalled to the BBC an experience when she told a customer to take his clothes off and suspected something was up. It wasn’t until she felt under the pillow that she discovered the guy had hidden a huge knife.

Both are now retired, Louise retiring first due to arthritis and Martine following soon after. Louise told The Guardian that the industry has not improved over time.

“It used to be that the whole family lived off what you earned and now the Inland Revenue comes up with crazy amounts that you have to pay,” she said.

“It is better for pimps and foreigners, but not for Dutch women. The vultures came in 2000. The organized criminals.”
