Another gruesome discovery of 751 unmarked graves at former school site

At a former school in Canada, according to published reports, there has been another gruesome discovery of at least 751 unmarked graves. An announcement made on Zoom by Bobby Camero, head of FSIN, has said that the residential school was run by a Roman Catholic Church.

A total of 751 unmarked graves have been found at the site of the former Marieural school residence, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) and the and the Cowessessess First Nation in Saskatchewan reported Thursday.

The announcement was made in Zoom by FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron and Cowessess First Nation Chief Cadmus Delorme.

Chief Delorme said they cannot confirm that all of the unmarked graves contain children.There are also oral accounts of adults buried there.

The residential school grave was in the care of the Roman Catholic Church.

First Nation Chief Cadmus Delorme speaks:

“We are treating this as a crime scene and will know more about the matter as we continue our search,” Delorme said.

Delorme added that this is not a mass grave site, but described the discoveries as unmarked graves.

The Marievenal Indian boarding school operated between 1899 and 1997. According to National Center for Truth and Reconciliation records, the school was built by Roman Catholic missionaries.

The national center’s public records list eight student deaths. Cowessess First Nation had begun the process of locating the unmarked graves on June 2.

Members of the media were asked not to visit the school or the community site due to COVID-19 security restrictions in place.
