CBP Seizes $984,000 Worth of Cocaine in Texas Border Operations

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Texas have once again demonstrated their commitment to national security by intercepting a significant haul of cocaine. In two separate incidents, officers seized a total of nearly $1 million worth of cocaine, preventing these dangerous substances from reaching American streets.

The successful operations underscore the critical role of CBP officers in maintaining border security and the effectiveness of their inspection technologies. These seizures not only highlight the persistent threat of drug trafficking but also the dedication of the men and women on the front lines.

First Seizure: Laredo’s Colombia-Solidarity Bridge

On Friday, June 12, at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge in Laredo, CBP officers intercepted a 2026 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by a 56-year-old Mexican citizen. The vehicle was referred for a secondary inspection following an initial screening. Using a combination of canine units and nonintrusive inspection systems officers discovered 20 packages hidden within the truck.

The packages contained a total of 50.75 pounds of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $677,617. The narcotics and the vehicle were seized by CBP, and the driver was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents. The investigation into this seizure is ongoing.

Second Seizure: Eagle Pass’s Camino Real Bridge

The following day, Saturday, June 13, officers at the Camino Real Bridge in Eagle Pass referred a 2015 Toyota Camry driven by a 53-year-old Mexican citizen for a secondary inspection. A thorough examination using nonintrusive imaging technology revealed 13 packages concealed within the vehicle.

These packages held 22.97 pounds of suspected cocaine, valued at approximately $306,723 on the street. Similar to the previous incident, the narcotics and the vehicle were confiscated, and the driver was taken into custody by HSI special agents for further investigation.

The Impact of These Seizures

Director of Field Operations Donald R. Kusser of the Laredo Field Office emphasized the significance of these back-to-back seizures. “These incidents underscore the daily drug threat we face and our officers’ ability to leverage their experience and technology to intercept these dangerous loads,” Kusser stated. “Thanks to their vigilance, these drugs will not reach American communities.”

The seizures are a testament to the ongoing efforts of CBP officers under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. These operations are part of a broader strategy to stop illegal activity and facilitate lawful entry for millions of legitimate travelers into the United States.
