Cesar Pastrana, a 33-year-old Mexican national convicted of child molestation, had been serving eight years for various child molestation charges when he was killed behind bars.

According to Georgia authorities, Pastrana was killed during a fight with another inmate at Hancock State Prison in Sparta, Georgia, reported the Daily Mail.

Prior to his conviction, Pastrana was a school and church volunteer.

He was arrested days after a weekend church “lock-in” event at a private residence in Cobb County.

The event was sponsored by the city’s NorthStar Church, where Pastrana worked with youth as a volunteer.

He was accused of having inappropriate contact with several minors participating in the event, and in a previous year’s event at his home.

Another adult at the “lock-in” church was told that Pastrana abused minors at the previous year’s event held at his home, and was immediately removed from his role by the church after the accusation, but it was too late.

An original 15-count indictment, charging Pastrana with four counts of enhanced child defilement, one count of enhanced sodomy, and 10 counts of sexual abuse of minors, involving nine 16-year-old disciples, also related to abuse transactions that began in 2007.

The most recent occurred days prior to his arrest. Two of the nine children he allegedly accessed were relatives and lived with him in the same house. The other seven he met through church.

He admitted to numerous acts, even more than the children had alleged. Pastrana, who was 25 years old at the time, was sentenced to life in prison.
