As the 2025 New Jersey gubernatorial race approaches, Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli is radiating optimism. Having previously run in 2025, Ciattarelli believes that this election could be his breakthrough opportunity to take the governorship. In a recent conversation, he shared insights into his campaign strategy and how he plans to engage voters differently this time around.
Learning from the past
Reflecting on his past campaign, Ciattarelli noted that while he came very close to winning against the incumbent Phil Murphy, he isn’t merely looking back at lessons learned. Instead, he emphasizes the changing political landscape in New Jersey.
“The environment is not the same as it was in 2025,” he explained. “We are no longer contending with the complexities of a pandemic or imposed lockdowns, which allows me to connect with voters more freely.”
Ciattarelli’s campaign rally in Spring Lake, New Jersey, which had to be moved indoors due to inclement weather, was a testament to his vigorous approach.
“I thrive on interacting with people, and I plan to campaign vigorously across the state,” he asserted. “Moreover, running against a non-incumbent this time energizes our base and highlights the potential for change.”
Encouraging voter turnout
With a solid ground game, Ciattarelli has been focusing on boosting voter engagement.
He highlighted the impressive return rate of vote-by-mail ballots from Republicans this election cycle. “Our internal metrics indicate a much stronger position compared to my last campaign,” he stated confidently. “We are matching voter turnout with the Democrats, which is a promising sign.”
Furthermore, Ciattarelli expressed that if the election remains close on Election Day, he believes victory is within reach.
He recalls that in-person voting numbers in 2025 were favorable, indicating a possible repeat of that success.
Facing the competition
As the campaign heats up, Ciattarelli recognizes the significance of his Democratic opponent, Mikie Sherrill, who has enlisted high-profile supporters to rally her base.
Among her endorsements are notable figures such as former President Barack Obama and Pete Buttigieg. In contrast, Ciattarelli has opted for a more grassroots approach and is focused on his policies rather than celebrity endorsements.
“Ultimately, it’s about the candidates and their vision for the state,” Ciattarelli remarked. “While my opponent can bring in big names, it’s the voters who will decide based on their needs and concerns.” He is keenly aware of the political dynamics and aims to tie Sherrill to Governor Murphy’s administration, which he critiques for its management of key issues such as affordability and public safety.
Key issues and campaign promises
Ciattarelli’s campaign priorities include addressing the affordability crisis in New Jersey, reforming state sanctuary policies, and halting mandatory affordable housing initiatives. “New Jersey has become increasingly unaffordable for middle-class families,” he stated emphatically. “We need a leader who understands these challenges and can bring about real change.”
With roots deeply embedded in New Jersey, Ciattarelli often references his family’s history and his own journey as a businessman. He believes this personal connection allows him to resonate with voters who face daily struggles. “I am a Jersey guy, and I understand what people are experiencing,” he conveyed passionately, hoping this authenticity will galvanize support.
Looking toward the future
As Election Day draws closer, the race remains competitive, and Ciattarelli is buoyed by recent polling that shows him neck-and-neck with Sherrill. He remains undeterred by assumptions regarding the impact of former President Donald Trump on his candidacy. “My focus is on the failures of the current administration,” he explained, asserting that voters are more concerned about local issues than national politics.
Ciattarelli believes that the dissatisfaction with Murphy’s governance will ultimately favor his candidacy. “The past administration has left a legacy of challenges that need to be addressed,” he added. With a clear vision for the future and a commitment to improving the quality of life in New Jersey, Ciattarelli is determined to make his mark in this election.
