In a nail-biting CFL match, the Edmonton Elks secured a 23-18 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, thanks to a late-game touchdown pass from Cody Fajardo to TJ Luther.

Cody Fajardo Leads Edmonton Elks to Victory Against Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Edmonton Elks have proven once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the CFL. In a thrilling match against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on June 25, 2026, the Elks showcased their resilience and determination, overcoming a 17-point deficit to secure a 23-18 victory.

The game, held at Princess Auto Stadium in front of a sellout crowd of 32,343 fans, was a testament to the Elks’ ability to perform under pressure. Quarterback Cody Fajardo played a pivotal role, completing 25 of 35 passes for 267 yards and leading a crucial touchdown drive in the final minutes.

The Elks’ Comeback Victory

The Elks’ journey to victory was not without its challenges. After building an early 17-0 lead, they found themselves trailing 18-17 in the fourth quarter. However, Fajardo’s eight-yard touchdown pass to TJ Luther with 53 seconds remaining sealed the deal for Edmonton.

We’re not playing our best ball all throughout four quarters, Fajardo admitted. But what we are doing is we’re playing our best ball at critical times. This strategy has proven effective, as the Elks have now started the season with a perfect 3-0 record, their best start since 2017.

Key Performances and Turning Points

Running back Justin Rankin was a standout performer for the Elks, rushing for 106 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries. Backup quarterback Cole Snyder also contributed with a one-yard touchdown plunge. Vincent Blanchard added to the scoreboard with a 15-yard field goal and two converts.

On the other side, Winnipeg’s Zach Collaros put up a valiant effort, completing 24 of 33 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Blue Bombers’ chances were hampered by several turnovers. Brady Oliveira and Dante Daniels each fumbled the ball, leading to crucial Elks’ scores.

The Blue Bombers’ struggles extended beyond the turnovers. Kicker Sergio Castillo missed two field goals, although he did connect on a 53-yarder and added both converts and a single. Injuries also plagued Winnipeg, with receiver Ontaria Wilson and defensive lineman Jake Ceresna leaving the game due to injuries.

Defensive Struggles and Offensive Resilience

The Blue Bombers’ defence faced significant challenges, particularly in the first half. They allowed a 100-yard touchdown drive on Edmonton’s opening possession and struggled to contain Rankin, who ran wild with 95 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone.

Despite their defensive woes, the Blue Bombers showed improvement in the second half, with players like Deatrick Nichols and Jayden Smith making key plays. However, their efforts were not enough to overcome the Elks’ late-game heroics.

The Elks’ victory was a testament to their offensive resilience and defensive tenacity. Nobody’s messing with us, Luther stated confidently. I feel like we’ve got the best team in the league. I just feel very confident in our team.

As the CFL season progresses, the Edmonton Elks have set a high bar with their 3-0 start. However, Fajardo remains cautious. There’s been a narrative about this organization over the last six years and all I want to do and what these guys want to do is change that narrative, he said. We do that by starting 3-0.
