In a significant move for Edmonton’s political scene, the Principled Accountable Coalition for Edmonton (PACE) has unveiled its initial lineup of candidates for the upcoming municipal elections. This marks a pivotal moment as PACE becomes the first municipal political party to enter the race, aiming to reshape the governance of the city.
Meet the candidates
So far, PACE has approved six candidates to run for council, each bringing unique perspectives and experiences to the table. Among them is Mazzoca, a small home builder who is passionate about enhancing council accountability. He is particularly focused on halting a controversial multi-plex zoning bylaw that affects mature neighborhoods, advocating for community interests over development pressures.
Another notable candidate is Ammar, a longtime resident of Edmonton with extensive experience in transit system management. His goal is to foster greater accountability within the council, ensuring that the voices of the citizens are heard and prioritized in decision-making processes.
At just 23 years old, Kaur represents the youth of Edmonton. Currently pursuing a degree in computer software development, she aims to leverage her non-profit work to amplify the voices of young people in the city, advocating for their needs and concerns in local governance.
Experience and vision
Thomas, a former mayoral candidate in the 2017 municipal election, brings a wealth of experience as a police officer with over a decade of service. His focus is on addressing crime and disorder in the community, proposing actionable solutions to enhance public safety and well-being.
Retired project manager Ropcean is making a comeback, eager to tackle the city’s pressing debt issues and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. His background in managing large industrial projects equips him with the skills necessary to navigate Edmonton’s complex financial landscape.
Lastly, Fediuk, a real estate developer and small business owner, is committed to promoting responsible development and transparent decision-making at city hall. His experience in the private sector positions him well to advocate for balanced growth that benefits all residents.
The road ahead for PACE
As PACE continues to build its team, the party is actively seeking six more candidates to complete their slate. One of the most critical positions still open is the mayoral candidate, a role that will be pivotal in shaping the future of Edmonton. The emergence of PACE signals a shift in the political dynamics of the city, as voters are presented with new options and perspectives.
With a focus on accountability, transparency, and community engagement, PACE aims to resonate with a diverse electorate, particularly the younger generation eager for change. As the election approaches, all eyes will be on how these candidates articulate their visions and connect with the citizens of Edmonton.
