The Role: Covering the DC Circus
The ideal candidate will be an enterprising journalist with a passion for politics and a knack for breaking news. This role involves reporting and writing on the big political stories of the day spotting trending news, and providing sharp, authoritative coverage of how decisions in the capital shape the nation.
Key responsibilities include covering legislative battles, policy shifts, elections, and key political figures. The reporter will also be expected to break exclusive stories and find fresh angles on widely covered issues. Building and maintaining a strong network of sources, from lawmakers and lobbyists to administration and campaign officials, is crucial.
Real-Time Reporting and Source Building
Staying on top of political developments in real time and filing timely, accurate copy is a must. The reporter will use public records, FOIA requests, and social media to surface and verify stories. Working closely with editors and colleagues to produce fast, engaging coverage across digital and social platforms is also part of the job.
Requirements: What It Takes to Succeed
To excel in this role, candidates should have a minimum of three years of newsroom reporting experience, with a focus on DC or political coverage. Experience writing about the White House and Congress, and building sources within the Trump administration is a plus.
The ability to deliver fast, accurate, and efficient, high-impact reporting is essential. Strong editorial judgment and writing skills under tight deadlines are a must. The role requires availability to work Sunday to Thursday, with flexibility to work evenings and irregular hours as news demands.

Compensation and Benefits: What’s in It for You
The Post is committed to offering competitive and flexible compensation to attract top talent. The base pay range for this role is between $75,000 and $90,000. This range reflects their good faith estimate for the role and may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.
