Shanna Swan, a professor of environmental medicine and public health at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, made the prediction in light of declining sperm count, which she found had more than halved in the last 40 years in a study published in 2017. The rate of decline is a threat to the survival of our species, Swan previously warned.
Now she has predicted that people can depend on products like IVF to get pregnant in less than 25 years.
So what has happened? Well, Swan thinks we should be much more concerned about the impact of chemicals, particularly phthalates, which are used to make plastic flexible.
They are used regularly throughout the food production and packaging process and can lower testosterone levels.
