This cherished tradition marks a highlight of the Thanksgiving holiday, attracting crowds eager to experience a vibrant showcase of floats, balloons, and engaging performances. With the theme ‘Thanksgiving is Better in Detroit,’ this year’s festivities are set to provide an unforgettable experience for attendees of all ages.

Beginning at 8:45 AM, the parade will present an impressive selection of celebrated floats, each crafted to ignite the imagination. From towering balloons to marching bands, the event offers a sensory delight that embodies the spirit of community and gratitude.

Notable features of the parade

This year’s event will boast a star-studded lineup, including performances from acclaimed artists. The parade will kick off with a mesmerizing rendition of Disney’s The Lion King, featuring the talented Darian Sanders and Syndee Winters, who will sing the iconic song ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight.’

Grand marshals and celebrity guests

The parade will be led by distinguished grand marshals: Mayor Mike Duggan, the 75th Mayor of Detroit, and Devin Scillian, a respected television journalist associated with WDIV-TV. Their presence adds a meaningful touch to the event, celebrating the city’s leadership and rich history.

In addition to local dignitaries, the parade will feature numerous celebrity appearances, including Emmy Award-winning actor Sam Richardson, known for his roles in popular series like ‘Ted Lasso.’ Attendees can also anticipate seeing actor Christopher McDonald and former Detroit Lions player Dexter Busse, among other notable figures.

Exciting attractions await

A highlight of this year’s parade is the introduction of 29 award-winning floats, many designed by local sponsors such as the DTE Foundation and Ford Motor Company. Among them, eight new designs will be unveiled, each promising to enhance the parade’s visual appeal.

Balloon extravaganza and marching bands

Adding to the excitement, six giant balloons will drift gracefully above the parade route, creating a whimsical atmosphere that delights spectators. Throughout the parade, nine dynamic marching bands will invigorate the crowd with their spirited performances, including local high school bands that encourage viewers to cheer for their community representatives.

The parade is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of attendees, transforming Woodward Avenue into a colorful tapestry of joy and celebration. Commencing at Woodward Avenue & Kirby and concluding at Woodward Avenue & Congress, the parade spans a three-mile route filled with festive cheer.

Broadcasting the festivities

For those unable to attend in person, the excitement will be broadcast live on WDIV-Local 4, starting with a pre-parade show at 6 AM. The parade itself will be aired from 10 AM to noon, allowing viewers to enjoy the spectacle from the comfort of their homes. Additionally, local radio stations 760 WJR and 104.3 WMOC will provide coverage, ensuring that everyone can partake in the celebration.
