A Florida father shoots and kills his two children and then himself in a murder-suicide following a domestic dispute. The shooting took place in Miami Lakes, a suburb of Miami, where the father killed his 12-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son before killing himself. The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. (local time) Tuesday in front of his apartment complex.

The children’s mother was also in the house when the killings occurred, but was not injured, WSVN reported.

Neighbors who heard the mother’s screams ran outside and performed CPR on the boy, but he did not survive.

The apartment complex is across the street from a Publix supermarket. Witness Cardinal Norgwei came out of the grocery store and told WSVN that “a lady came screaming across the street and apparently that was the mother.”

Witnesses said they heard a woman screaming after finding three bodies near a canal outside the apartment building.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said the woman had tried to contact her ex-husband as it was getting late and school the next day, but received no response, NBC Miami reported.

“When I arrived, there was an older lady standing there and she was very nervous, she said ‘yes’ she could hear the lady screaming,” Norgwei, who lives in the area, told NBC. “Allegedly, the children’s mother went outside and some people even said they heard gunshots.”

The names of the father and children have not been released at this time.

Miami Dade Police Department Director Alfredo Ramirez tweeted at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, “Today afternoon, officers attended the scene where a father, in a senseless act, shot and killed his 12-year-old daughter as well as his 9-year-old son, before killing himself. My deepest condolences to the family of the victims.”
