Phillips’ journey with the B.C. Lions began 21 years ago when he attended his first free agent workout. At the time, he was unsure if he would make the cut, especially given the talent he saw around him. However, his hard work and athletic ability quickly caught the attention of then-quarterback Buck Pierce who would later become the team’s head coach.
Over the next 12 years, Phillips played 212 games for B.C., winning Grey Cups in 2006 and 2011. He was named a CFL all-star four times and holds the club’s record for interception return yards (817) and sits fifth in defensive tackles (490). His versatility and high-energy play made him a valuable asset to the team.
