The Red Sea Film Festival commenced its fifth edition in Jeddah, featuring the regional premiere of Giant. This film chronicles the journey of iconic British boxer Prince Naseem Hamed, resonating with audiences through a blend of nostalgia and admiration.
Director Rowan Athale expressed his surprise at the star-studded opening night. He stated, “I’ve attended numerous festivals, but this experience felt akin to the Oscars.” The presence of luminaries including Juliette Binoche, Jessica Alba, Michael Caine, and Vin Diesel underscored the festival’s growing prestige.
Celebrating cinematic excellence
Actor Amir El-Masry, who portrayed Naseem Hamed, described the experience as surreal. He noted the unique opportunity to share the space with industry giants he deeply respects. El-Masry remarked, “It’s rare to see talents like Aishwarya Rai and Kirsten Dunst in one room, but here it’s effortless.”

This year, the festival showcases over 100 films from more than 50 countries, bridging cultural divides and promoting diverse narratives.

The festival’s theme, “For the Love of Cinema,” underscores its dedication to storytelling. Among the featured films is Giant, which encapsulates themes of identity and migration, resonating with many selected titles. The competition includes 16 films from Asia, Africa, and the Arab world, highlighting a diverse array of voices.
