What started as the pandemic prank, turned into a full-fledged show that unfolded Saturday to a packed house as hundreds of people named Josh in Lincoln, Nebraska, gathered to make it about their common name.

A college student from Arizona named Josh Swain, in the past year, created a chat group where he added hundreds of people with the name Josh

“You’re probably wondering why I’ve quoted you here today,” the 22-year-old wrote.

“Why do we all have the same name?” wrote another Josh.

“We are fighting to keep the name, whoever wins everyone else has to change their name, you have a year to prepare, good luck.”

“These are the coordinates on April 24, 2021, the Air Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.” wrote Swain

Josh Swain said it was just a joke and he didn’t think anything would come of it.

That was just a few months ago, but as friends brought it up again Swain decided to go for it.

He bought a plane ticket to Lincoln and sent messages to the other Joshes, most of which he didn’t respond to. He did, however, post details about the organization on social media.

Josh Swain wasn’t sure if anyone would show up, but hundreds of people came to the large green space at Air Park for the Battle of the Joshes

A sign had a tournament headline preceding the outcome of the bout written with “Josh” on each line.

In the end, 4-year-old Lincoln resident Josh Vinson Jr. was reported as the final Josh, ABC reporter Yousef Nasser reported.

Vinson quickly became “little Josh” with a Burger King paper king crown and trophy presented.

He was lifted into the middle of the crowd of Joshes and met with rough applause.

He visited the fight with his father, Josh Vinson Sr. who told reporters that little Josh “would remember this for the rest of his life.”

The original Josh Swain used Josh’s fight to raise money for the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center Foundation.

He also used the event to host a food drive for the Lincoln Food Bank. “Thank you for helping all the volunteers out and the people of the great city of Lincoln to be invaluable and make this event amazing” he wrote after the event on Twitter
