Khaby Lame, the young man who has conquered Tik Tok without saying a word

Khabane Lame’s nickname in Tik Tok is khaby.lame, and under that name in just over a year he has managed to get fifty-nine million people, to date, to follow him and give him ‘likes’ to his content without saying a word. But what is it that makes the young man who does not utter a single word in his videos so popular?

Khaby Lame, the young man who has conquered Tik Tok without saying a word

The secret of Lame, a 21-year-old born in Senegal who currently lives in Chivasso, Italy, is actually very simple. He has taken to posting videos of him reacting to other people’s content in which they share their “tricks” for doing all sorts of things.

His reaction is always the same one of bewilderment and disbelief. He makes fun of those who seem to complicate their lives, showing them that for all their setbacks, there is always a simpler solution.

In one of his most popular videos he makes fun of another tiktoker who gets out of a car door by cutting his shirt with a pair of scissors. Lame appears in the same circumstances, showing that by simply opening the car door he can free himself.

This is what has made him viral in just a few months, since he created his account in March 2020, and little by little he found the key to gain followers worldwide.

According to the Social Tracker website, which measures the popularity of influencers in different social networks according to the number of followers and ‘likes’ achieved, Lame ranks fifth in the world. The young man managed to surpass Gianluca Vacchi himself in Italy, a veteran of the social networks who enchants with his dances, and worldwide the actor Will Smith. How did he do it? By adding between his 878 videos, nearly eight hundred million ‘likes’.

The tiktoker has it clear, he knows that his fans are spread all over the world. That’s why in short texts in English and Italian he describes his videos, and lets his gestures, his expressive look and non-verbal language do the magic.

In a recent interview with the newspaper Corriere della Sera, the influencer who grew up in a social housing complex in Italy, talked about how his fifteen minutes of fame have come to him. “To be honest, I didn’t expect this success in the least,” he commented, “my goal is simply to entertain people,” he said assuring that he was not interested in his position in the platform’s ranking of content creators.
