The London Knights showcase their dominance in a thrilling match against the North Bay Battalion.

Knights’ impressive performance on the road

The London Knights delivered a stellar performance against the North Bay Battalion, securing a 3-1 victory on January 23. This win marks the beginning of a three-game road trip for the Knights, who are looking to maintain their momentum in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). With captain Denver Barkey and defenceman Oliver Bonk each contributing a goal and an assist, the Knights showcased their depth and skill on the ice.

Key moments that defined the game

The game kicked off with a flurry of action, as goals were scored just 36 seconds apart. North Bay’s Kent Greer opened the scoring with a wrist shot that found the back of the net, but the Knights quickly responded. Easton Cowan, extending his impressive point streak to 62 games, assisted Bonk, who leveled the score at 1-1. This back-and-forth action set the tone for an exciting match.

Henry Brzustewicz then put the Knights ahead with a well-placed shot after receiving a pass from Blake Montgomery. As the first period came to a close, London held a 2-1 lead, showcasing their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Sam Dickinson added to the Knights’ tally with a power-play goal, bringing the score to 3-1. The Knights’ defense, led by goaltender Austin Elliott, who improved his record to 19-0-0-0, held strong to maintain their lead.

Looking ahead: All-Star roster and upcoming games

The Knights are not only excelling in their current games but are also preparing for the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s All-Star roster. Four Knights prospects—Logan Hawery, Caleb Mitchell, Cohen Bidgood, and Brendan Gerber—will participate in the upcoming St. Andrews College MacPherson Tournament from January 31 to February 2. This highlights the Knights’ strong recruitment and development program, as no other OHL team has more prospects participating than London.

As the Knights gear up for their next challenge against the Sudbury Wolves on January 24, they aim to build on their recent successes. The previous encounter with Sudbury saw the Knights dominate with an 8-1 victory, thanks to standout performances from Jess Nurmi and Kasper Halttunen.
