Knights bounce back in Game 2
In a thrilling matchup of the OHL Championship Series, the London Knights showcased their offensive prowess by defeating the Oshawa Generals 5-2 in Game 2. This victory marked the ninth time in just 14 playoff games that the Knights scored at least five goals, demonstrating their ability to dominate on the ice.
Easton Cowan was the star of the night, contributing significantly with two goals and three assists, helping to even the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.
Power plays set the tone
The game kicked off with a power play that set the tone for the scoring.
After the Generals successfully killed off an early London power play, they capitalized on their own opportunity. Cal Ritchie opened the scoring for Oshawa, netting a goal on a second rebound, giving the Generals a 1-0 lead. However, Cowan, who had been held scoreless in Game 1, quickly responded.
He scored his ninth goal of the postseason, tying the game at 1-1 with a precise shot that found the back of the net.
Cowan’s playmaking skills shine
Cowan’s impact on the game continued to grow as he assisted Sam O’Reilly in a give-and-go play that put the Knights ahead 2-1 early in the second period.
The Knights extended their lead to 3-1 with a wrist shot from Oliver Bonk, with Cowan once again contributing an assist. Despite a brief comeback from the Generals, who narrowed the gap to 3-2, Cowan’s relentless play led to another goal, this time assisting Jacob Julien on a two-on-one break, pushing the Knights’ lead to 4-2.
As the game progressed, the Knights’ defense held strong, with goaltender Austin Elliott making crucial saves, including 15 in the third period alone. Cowan capped off the scoring with an empty-net goal, solidifying the Knights’ victory. Despite being outshot 33-30, the Knights’ efficiency and teamwork shone through, proving their resilience in the face of playoff pressure.
