Man doused his wife with gasoline and burned her alive
A 31-year-old French mother was burned alive by her husband, who chased her down the street and shot her in the legs before setting her on fire, police said Wednesday.
The woman and the 44-year-old man, who in 2020 was convicted of spousal violence against the same victim, were separated.
The man fired several shots at the woman as she fled from a road and wounded her in the legs.
After she collapsed, he set her body on fire while she was still breathing, according to police.
He is charged with murder and is suspected of also setting fire to the house where the woman lived.
The couple’s children were not at home at the time of the attack, according to the prosecutor’s office, which added that they received psychological care.
The victim’s neighbors expressed their dismay at what happened.
“He was released from prison in September or October. Since then he harassed her, spied on her, pursued her,” stated a neighbor.
“About two months ago he assaulted her again outside a supermarket. He managed to get her into his truck and tried to strangle her. But she managed to run away,” she added.
