In a testament to his remarkable career, Mike Egan has been awarded the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Washington’s Political Science Department. Egan, a prominent figure in the tech industry, has made significant contributions to both the corporate world and his community.

From Capitol Hill to Corporate Leadership
Egan’s career began in the political arena, serving as a Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Norm Dicks in Washington, D.C. from 1990 to 1999. This experience laid the foundation for his future roles in corporate and government affairs.
In 1999, Egan joined Microsoft, where he has spent over 27 years in various roles. Currently, he serves as the General Manager for Microsoft, U.S. Public Affairs, leading a team that drives economic development and community engagement across all 50 states. His responsibilities include managing the company’s external and political engagement, overseeing the Microsoft Political Action Committee, and hosting heads-of-state and leaders at the Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
A Legacy of Service and Leadership
Egan’s commitment to service extends beyond his professional roles. He has served on the board of directors for several notable organizations, including the University of Washington Foundation, Good Samaritan Hospital, University of Washington Tacoma, Washington State Fair Foundation, YMCA Youth and Government, and the Washington Council for International Trade. Additionally, he has been president of the University of Washington Alumni Association.
Egan’s educational background is equally impressive. A graduate of the University of Washington, he was elected ASUW President and served on the University’s Board of Regents. His academic achievements include being the state’s debate champion, showcasing his early prowess in communication and leadership.

Egan resides in Newcastle, Washington, with his wife Karyn and their two children, Mabel (17) and Jack (14). His dedication to family and community is evident in his various roles and contributions.
