Nusret Gökçe, the Turkish restaurateur and chef known on the Internet as Salt Bae, has just opened a branch of his Nusr-Et restaurants in London.

The charismatic 38-year-old chef became a meme sensation in 2017 for using a unique theatrical technique when preparing and seasoning meat.

Gökçe’s latest steak restaurant, located in Knightsbridge’s Park Tower Hotel, is the 15th to open worldwide, with other establishments in New York, Los Angeles and Turkey.

People are already sharing their reactions to the pricey menu, which includes the chef’s famous 24-karat gold steak.

A receipt, printed by Nusr-Et, is being shared online, showing a $12 Coke, the giant tomahawk at $857 and complimentary Turkish tea.

“44 pounds ($59) for 4 Red Bulls? Is Salt Bae OK?” one surprised person asked on Twitter.

“Cheaper to fly and eat at Salt Bae’s Turkish restaurant than go to the one in London. 9 pounds ($12) for a coke. 630 pounds ($857) for a tomahawk steak. No thanks,” shared another person in response to the receipt.

“I think there’s a line where high restaurant prices stop being a rip-off and become a kind of performance art, and I think Salt Bae’s new restaurant in London has crossed it,” claimed another.

“A man who has created a whole brand and chain of restaurants from Internet advertising charges £11 ($14) for a Red Bull. I’m outraged,” added this Twitter user.

One restaurant-goer shared on Instagram a video of the golden steak service and a photo with Salt Bea.

With 36 million followers on Instagram and a lot of hype surrounding it, it is perhaps not surprising that it is now almost impossible to book a table at the Salt Bae restaurant, despite skyrocketing menu prices.
