Pharr International Bridge: CBP seizes $634,000 worth of cocaine in tractor-trailer

The relentless efforts of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility once again proved instrumental in maintaining border security. On August 7, 2026 these vigilant officers thwarted a significant drug smuggling attempt, seizing $634,000 worth of alleged cocaine concealed within a commercial tractor-trailer.

This latest interception underscores the critical role that CBP officers play in safeguarding our communities. Their expertise and dedication are essential in the ongoing battle against illicit narcotics and transnational criminal organizations.

The interception: a testament to CBP’s expertise

The intercepted vehicle, a tractor-trailer traveling from Reynosa, Mexico was referred to secondary inspection after initial screening. Utilizing nonintrusive inspection equipment CBP officers detected anomalies within the tractor. A subsequent physical inspection revealed the presence of 18 packages of alleged cocaine with a combined weight of 47.48 pounds (21.54 kg.).

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry commended the officers’ efforts, stating, “Our CBP officers continue to successfully use their skills and expertise to intercept another load of hard narcotics.” This interception is a clear demonstration of the officers’ commitment and the effectiveness of their screening processes.

The aftermath: seizures and investigations

Following the discovery, the CBP Office of Field Operations seized both the narcotics and the vehicle. The case has been handed over to Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) Special Agents who have initiated a criminal investigation to uncover the full extent of this smuggling operation and bring those responsible to justice.

This seizure is part of a broader effort by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and CBP to deliver the most secure border in history. Their mandate, as outlined by President Donald J. Trump focuses on stopping illicit narcotics and dangerous criminal aliens from entering our communities, thereby ensuring the safety of Americans for generations to come.
