The Duke of Sussex spoke with actor Dax Shepard, host of the podcast “Armchair Expert,” in an episode he released Thursday.

On being raised as a royal, he said, “When it comes to parenting, if I experienced any form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering, that maybe my father or my parents went through. So I’ll make sure I eliminate that cycle so I don’t pass it on.”

“There’s a lot of genetic pain that happens anyway, so we, our duty as parents, is try to do everything we can to try to say ‘that ever happened to me, it’s in my hands to do what I can to make sure it doesn’t happen to you,'” he continued.

The Duke of Sussex said that, as time went on, he noticed that Charles raised him the same way he was raised.

Harry also mentioned that Charles stopped answering his calls after he and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, stepped back as active members of the royal family.

He also talked about the media in the UK. “It’s a cross between ‘the Truman Show’ and being in a zoo,” he said in reference to the 1998 Jim Carrey movie in which the title character has no idea he’s living on a giant TV set where his every move is recorded.
