In a notable political development, progressive California lawmaker Rep. Ro Khanna has received the endorsement of the influential advocacy group TrackAIPAC. This endorsement comes as Khanna positions himself for a potential presidential run in 2028signaling a significant shift in his stance on Israel-Palestine issues.
TrackAIPAC, known for its vigilant monitoring of political contributions from pro-Israel lobby groups, has become a formidable force in American politics. The group’s endorsement of Khanna marks a pivotal moment, as he transitions from being a target of their scrutiny to a recipient of their support.
Khanna’s Evolution on Israel-Palestine Issues
Khanna, who represents parts of San Francisco’s Bay Areahas undergone a notable evolution in his views on Israel-Palestine. Initially, he voted in favor of pro-Israel resolutions in the immediate aftermath of the October 7, 2026 attacks. However, his stance has since shifted dramatically. He has become a vocal critic of Israel’s actions, voting against bills that sought to codify definitions of antisemitism used to silence criticism of Israel.
In the summer of 2026Khanna co-sponsored the Block the Bombs bill and signed resolutions acknowledging Israel’s offensive in Gaza as a genocide and recognizing the Nakba. These actions have positioned him firmly to the left of the Democratic establishment on Israel-Palestine issues.
The PEACE Pledge and TrackAIPAC’s Influence
Khanna’s endorsement from TrackAIPAC came after he became the first signatory of the group’s new PEACE Pledge. This pledge, introduced on June 10commits candidates to reject campaign contributions from groups like AIPAC and DMFIacknowledge Israel’s genocide in Gaza, oppose military aid to countries committing human rights violations, and stand against efforts to intertwine U.S. and Israeli militaries.
“I’m proud to be the first member of Congress to sign the PEACE Pledge to reject campaign contributions and political support from AIPAC, DMFI, and other groups that promote unconditional support for Israel,” Khanna stated. “The pledge also affirms my opposition to the genocide in Gaza and my commitment to voting against future military assistance to any country whose security forces are committing human rights violations.”
TrackAIPAC’s Growing Impact
TrackAIPAC has emerged as a significant player in American politics, leveraging its social media presence to influence political discourse. The group’s viral posts have made AIPAC a politically toxic entity, driving much of its campaign giving underground. TrackAIPAC’s political arm, Citizens Against AIPAC Corruptionhas also been endorsing and funding candidates, claiming major victories in midterm primary races.
“We’ve been really effective at building a megaphone and bringing accountability to folks who are on the wrong side,” said TrackAIPAC co-founder Casey Kennedy. “But with that success, we’ve had a responsibility to offer a bridge to folks to chart a new path forward.”
Controversies and Criticisms
TrackAIPAC’s methodology has attracted controversy, as the group examines both campaign financing and legislative records on Israel-Palestine policies. Critics argue that the group’s red card system can be confusing or misleading, as it has at times targeted lawmakers who do not take AIPAC money.
Despite these criticisms, TrackAIPAC’s influence continues to grow. The group’s endorsement of Khanna underscores its growing clout in shaping political discourse on Israel-Palestine issues.
Khanna’s Political Future
Khanna’s endorsement from TrackAIPAC comes as he positions himself for a potential presidential run. In April, he announced his support for halting both offensive and defensive weapons to Israel due to its human rights abuses. This stance has positioned him to the left of the Democratic establishment on Israel-Palestine issues.
Political consultant Adam Carlson expects other congressional and presidential candidates to sign the PEACE Pledge, but cautions that it may not change the broader dynamic among establishment Democrats. “It’s a flex – the more people they get to sign this pledge, the stronger they are,” Carlson said. “But it won’t change the dynamic broadly.”
TrackAIPAC has stated that any legislator who abandons the pledge will again receive a red graphic and be targeted in the group’s intense social media campaigns. Co-founder Cori Archibald resisted the premise of a purity test, stating, “If you’re gonna have a litmus test, I think genocide is certainly a good one.”
