'Scream'-inspired teen planned to kill jogger and keep body for sexual fantasies

An 18-year-old has been arrested in Florida after attempting to murder a runner to satisfy “his sexual fantasies” with the body, the New York Post reports. The young man, inspired by the movie Scream, planned to strangle the athlete to death, and had studied his routines for weeks.

Logan Smith had been watching his victim, who ran across his street every day, for six weeks. He had a deodorant, a rubber mallet and a belt ready between two vehicles parked in front of his house. Smith told police he intended to wrap a belt around his victim’s neck, hit her with the sledgehammer, blind her with the deodorant and take her home wrapped in a sheet, but his plans were unsuccessful.

Logan Smith, he stated to Police, planned to hide “the victim’s body in his closet.” “The defendant stated that he also planned to play with the victim to fulfill his sexual fantasies,” the sheriff’s office report states.

The victim fought back using martial arts techniques

Smith, as he had planned, approached the runner from behind and put the belt around his neck. He realized he had made a poor choice, however, when the runner brought out his martial arts skills, reducing the young assailant until police arrived.

Smith’s family defines him as a lonely young man who, since the death of his father in a car accident five years ago, has been struggling with his mental issues.

“We are all at a loss because of this. It’s hard to understand the thoughts that were going through his head and what he wanted to do,” Smith’s mother’s boyfriend, who acts as the teen’s father figure, has told Fox.

The teen is now facing attempted murder charges and is reportedly being held without bail at the Brevard County Jail.
