Woods’ anticipated return to competitive golf
Tiger Woods is set to make a highly anticipated return to competitive golf at the PNC Championship, teaming up with his 15-year-old son, Charlie. This marks Woods’ first tournament appearance since the British Open in July, following a significant six back surgeries, the most recent occurring just three months ago.
The PNC Championship, which takes place on December 21-22 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, invites major champions to play alongside family members, creating a unique blend of competition and camaraderie.
Family and friendship at the PNC Championship
Woods has participated in the PNC Championship with Charlie every year since 2020, and he emphasizes the joy of playing alongside family. “Playing together is something we look forward to and it’s always more special when you’re surrounded by friends and family,” Woods stated, highlighting the emotional significance of the event.
This year, the tournament will feature 20 teams, including newcomers Fred Couples with stepson Hunter Hannemann and Trevor Immelman with son Jacob, adding to the familial atmosphere of the competition.
Woods’ health and future in golf
Despite his return, Woods has been cautious about his health and performance.
He opted to skip the Hero World Challenge, where he serves as host, citing that his game was not sharp enough to compete against the world’s top players. Woods underwent a microdiscectomy in September to relieve pain in his legs, marking his sixth surgery on his lower back.
His last major victory was in 2019, and while he set a Masters record by making his 24th consecutive cut in April, he missed the cut in the other three majors this year. Looking ahead, Woods remains uncertain about his competitive schedule, stating, “I’m just trying to rehab and still get stronger and better.”
