Two officers were killed in an exchange of gunfire Monday night in Texas, leaving one civilian wounded.
Two Texas law enforcement officers shot and killed after traffic stop
Two Concho County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies were shot and killed Monday night.
Police stated that the subject led the deputies on a short chase before taking cover in a building.
“Two law enforcement officers were shot and rendered lifeless during a standoff that continued,” police said.
One civilian was wounded during the shooting and was later transported to the nearest medical center.
The condition of the person who was wounded after the exchange of gunfire is unknown at this time.
The subject has been taken into custody and the motive for the attack is unknown at this time.
The law enforcement officers who were shot and killed worked for the CCSO, but their identities have not been released at this time.
The bodies of the fallen officers will be taken to Lubbock for autopsy by a procession of law enforcement officers Tuesday morning.
Some witnesses in the area told San Angelo LIVE that they observed police stop a vehicle and heard officers tell the driver to “roll down the window and then put his hands up.”
Witnesses said the driver sped off and drove to a nearby residence before hearing approximately 10 gunshots.
The subject subsequently surrendered.
