WhatsApp users have until Friday to accept the app’s new privacy update, or risk losing some aspects of its functionality, for example access to chats.

WhatsApp’s help center explained, “After everyone has had time to review, we remind those who did not to review and accept it.”

“After a period of several weeks, the reminder people receive will end up being persistent.”

WhatsApp, however, assured users that their account will not be deleted if they do not accept the changes, but they explain that you will experience” limited functionality” so far.

For example, they will still be able to answer incoming phone and video calls, but will not have access to their chat list.

“No one will have their account deleted, let alone lose WhatsApp functionality due to this update,” the help center says.

“You have limited functionality on WhatsApp until you accept the updates.” the help center continued.

This will not happen to all users at the same time.

“If you have enabled notifications, you can tap to read or react to a message or call a missed call or video call.”

The changes met with some backlash when they were announced earlier this year, when WhatsApp was announced to all users to accept the new conditions by February 8 – later they say, that instead they would “gradually go on people to review the policy at their own pace ahead of the new corporate opportunities available on May 15.”

Amid the data involved, WhatsApp has shared a blog post to stop the issues and set the record straight:

“We’ve heard from many people about the confusion around our recent update.”

“What you share with your friends and family stays between them.”

“This means we will always protect your personal conversations with end-to-end encryption.”

“That’s why we don’t take into account the protocols of all messages or calls.”

“We can’t see your shared location and we don’t share your contacts with Facebook.

“With these updates, none of that is going to change.”

The help center went on to stress, “This update does not extend our ability to share data with Facebook.”
