Kataluna Enriquez, a transgender woman, is chosen as Miss Nevada 2021, she is today a double pioneer and is not only the first transgender woman to win this headscarf, but also the first to compete for the title of Miss USA.
A transgender woman could win for the first time a headscarf
The 27-year-old was chosen from among 22 candidates. Kataluna Enriquez had validated her participation in the Miss Nevada 2021 pageant by earlier winning the title of Miss Silver State USA, the largest preliminary contest for the Miss Nevada election.
Once again, she was the first transgender woman to win the crown.
According to Las Vegas review, the young American woman started participating in beauty pageants in 2016.
At first, Kataluna Enriquez only entered the elections reserved for transgender people, parallel to her modeling profession.
“My differences are strengths”
People think that in this kind of competition it’s all about beauty but it’s also how you present yourself, what you stand for, what you have done and the goals you have,” she explains to the newspaper.
Kataluna Enriquez herself supports causes that resonate with her own experience: “What’s important to me is inclusion, diversity and representation. Today I am a proud transgender woman of color and I have learned that my differences are strengths, not weaknesses.”
The young woman will represent the state of Nevada in the Miss USA 2021 election.
She could then become the first transgender woman to win this pageant.
If she wins the contest, she could also be the second to compete for Miss Universe. Recalling that the first was Angela Ponce, Miss Spain 2018.
