The city of Cordoba was surprised this Sunday with the news of an act of violence as unusual as brutal. During the early hours of the morning, a 26-year-old woman cut off her 40-year-old lover’s genitals using a pair of pruning shear.

The incident occurred in an apartment at 500 Chacabuco St. in the Nueva Córdoba neighborhood, in the provincial capital, where the victim had been sleeping.
According to the police, in circumstances under investigation, the man -identified as S.F.- suffered cutting wounds in his penis and testicles that forced him to call an ambulance.
The attending physicians immediately referred him to the Emergency Hospital of Córdoba, where he arrived with visible blood stains on his crotch. The medical report spoke of “cutting wounds to the genitals”.
At that health center he underwent initial treatment to contain the hemorrhage, and was admitted to a common ward.
The aggressor, identified as Brenda Barattini, was arrested after confessing that she cut the man’s penis “with a pair of pruning shears”, said police sources quoted by La Voz. An investigation into the incident has been opened and the young woman has been charged.
The scene was reminiscent of what happened in 1993, in the United States, when Lorena Bobbitt cut off John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis. In that case, she had used a knife.
