The case has come to light after the warehouse where she hid the remains was put up for auction and another person discovered the terrifying secret that the woman was hiding in it.

On Nov. 13, the Tullahoma Police Department received a call alerting them to an unpleasant discovery: unidentified remains that they did not know were human, according to the Daily Mail.

The remains were sent to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled that they were the body of a newborn.

Authorities believe Melissa, now 62, may have given birth in March 1994, and that since that same month and year, the woman had rented a warehouse “for the sole purpose of storing the remains of her newborn baby.”

Coffee County, Tennessee District Attorney Craig Northcott said Melissa is charged with abuse of a corpse and disposal of a corpse in violation of the law.

In addition, it is not ruled out that additional charges will be added as the investigation, which is still ongoing, progresses.
