The American Century Championship returns for its 37th edition at Edgewood Tahoe from July 8-12. Fans were told that online ticketing opens at midnight on April 1, and the tournament promises the familiar mix of athletes, entertainers, and charitable fundraising that has defined the event. This short guide outlines who is expected to play, how to buy admission, and the unique competition format you’ll see on the shore of Lake Tahoe.
Tickets and access
The event will sell Daily General Admission tickets and weeklong grounds badge passes exclusively online through Eventbrite, with the link becoming active on April 1. Prices are set at $50 for the Wednesday and Thursday Celebrity-Amateur play, and $60 for each tournament day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A five-day grounds badge covering Wednesday through Sunday costs $175. Organizers warn that daily allocations are limited and that Friday and Saturday commonly sell out, so advance purchase is required; tickets will not be sold at the gate.
Veterans and special access
A limited number of complimentary tickets will be available for active duty and retired veterans: one ticket plus a guest for either Wednesday or Thursday rounds, with a two-ticket maximum per request. Those eligible should follow the instructions at acc.spinzo.com beginning on April 1. For full ticketing updates and the evolving player list, fans can check the tournament website and social channels.
Who is committed to play
The celebrity field blends current athletes, Hall of Famers, and entertainers. Early commitments include household names such as Stephen Curry, Charles Barkley, brothers Travis and Jason Kelce, Colin Jost, Tony Romo, and actors like Miles Teller and Ray Romano. Comedians and performers such as Nate Bargatze, Rob Mac, and Larry the Cable Guy are expected, while long-time participant Jack Wagner returns alongside Jim McMahon, the only two players to have played every tournament. Defending champion Joe Pavelski will also be in the field.
Sports stars and Hall of Famers
Active NFL names confirmed include Baker Mayfield, Davante Adams, Trevor Lawrence, Kyle Juszczyk, and coach Mike Vrabel. The lineup lists Hall of Famers and veteran stars such as Jerry Rice, Charles Woodson, Brian Urlacher, and Dwight Freeney. Golf and baseball icons slated to appear include Annika Sorenstam, MLB Hall of Famer John Smoltz, former Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe, and NBA Hall of Famer Ray Allen, with retired MLB names like Albert Pujols, Hall of Famer Joe Mauer, Kevin Millar, and Chase Utley also expected.
Format, prizes, and on-course atmosphere
The tournament uses the Modified Stableford scoring system, an approach where players earn points on each hole based on their score rather than counting total strokes; in short, aggressive play is often rewarded. The event field competes over 54 holes, and the purse totals $750,000, with $150,000 earmarked for the champion. The course setting amplifies the experience: Edgewood Tahoe, a George Fazio design, is recognized among Golf Digest‘s “America’s Top 100 Golf Courses” and delivers beachfront views and a festive lakeside atmosphere.
On-course features and prizes
Traditions at the event include boat-lined galleries at the par-3 17th and playful cross-sport moments when players toss souvenirs to fans or shoot free throws from a temporary hoop. High-stakes incentives remain: American Century Investments offers $1 million for a hole-in-one on No. 17 during the three competitive rounds (split with the Stowers Institute for Medical Research), and Mastercraft will award a $325,000 X24 speedboat for an ace on No. 12 Friday through Sunday. Past seasons saw competitors like Jimmy Rollins and Tim Brown win major prizes in similar contests.
Since 1990, the championship has given back to local and national causes, donating more than $8 million to nonprofits. Title sponsorship by American Century Investments continues, in partnership with NBC Sports, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Edgewood Tahoe, and local community partners and hotels.
