Four-month-old baby found alive in Colorado apartment where five adults were discovered dead from suspected drug overdose after police identify mystery ‘substance’ as ‘illicit narcotic’.
Baby survives in apartment where five adults were found dead of overdose
According to local media, the victims were three women and two men, who on the night of Saturday, February 19, had a party along with a woman they found alive.
Some neighbors reported hearing loud music and then some banging inside the property in Commerce City.
Ian Scott, a resident of the adjoining apartment, explained to the Denver Post that on Sunday afternoon he heard a woman screaming and when he looked out, he saw her outside, in shock, lying on the floor holding the baby, when he took a look at the place, he saw that there were other dead people and called the police.
Initially, the authorities thought that it had been a multiple homicide or that the people had died because of a gas leak, however, the first investigations showed that in the apartment they found traces of an unknown substance that could be considered an illegal drug, informed the chief of police, Clint Nichols.
Although everything seems to indicate that the cause of death of the five people was an overdose, they have yet to test the substance found as well as the bodies of the victims. “If it’s illicit drugs, they were very, very bad…No one could get to a phone and call 911 for a medical emergency.
It happened pretty quickly. But that’s speculation on my part,” the police chief stated during a press conference.
Meanwhile, he said that the woman and the baby are in good health, although it is not yet known if their parents are among the fatalities.
He also has no information on whether all the people who died lived in the apartment, but it is believed that at least some of them did live there.
