These partnerships are aimed at enhancing the country’s capabilities in disease monitoring, emergency response, and agricultural extension services.

Enhancing Public Health Through Data and Training
The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in conjunction with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the CDC Foundation, has been actively working to strengthen the country’s public health infrastructure. A notable initiative is the Frontline Evaluation Training and Tool Piloting program, which focuses on equipping data collectors with the necessary skills to monitor and evaluate public health interventions effectively.
This program is part of a broader effort to improve the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) which plays a crucial role in disease surveillance and response. By enhancing the capabilities of frontline workers, Belize aims to build a robust public health system that can effectively address emerging health challenges.
Strengthening Agricultural Extension Services
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries (MAFSNGI) has partnered with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to host a five-day technical training mission. This initiative is designed to strengthen agricultural extension services in Belize, ensuring that farmers and agricultural workers have access to the latest techniques and knowledge.

International Collaborations and Achievements
Belize has also made notable strides in international collaborations. The country has achieved full membership in the World Health Organization’s Programme for International Drug Monitoring (WHO PIDM), a milestone that underscores its commitment to global health standards. This membership will enable Belize to participate in international drug monitoring efforts, ensuring the safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical products.
Additionally, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has successfully completed its second Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program. This initiative has trained twenty-three residents from the villages of San Antonio and Guadalupe, enhancing the country’s preparedness for emergencies and natural disasters.
The Government of Belize has also participated in the UNIDO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean, reaffirming its commitment to industrial development and economic growth. Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño met with United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to discuss areas of cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management, in partnership with UNICEF Belize, has launched a landmark Climate Landscape Analysis for Children and Vulnerable Populations. This initiative aims to address the impacts of climate change on vulnerable groups and develop strategies to mitigate these effects.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has clarified its position following Spain‘s publication of a visa-free travel list, ensuring that Belizean citizens are aware of their travel rights and requirements. The Government of Belize has also expressed solidarity with Guyana following a ferry tragedy, demonstrating its commitment to regional cooperation and support.
