The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education is seeking a dynamic Event Manager to join the Office of Professional Learning and Community Education (PLACE). This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the planning and execution of impactful events that connect communities with UW-Madison’s expertise and resources.

PLACE is dedicated to creating engaging learning experiences in the arts, health, and education. The Event Manager will play a pivotal role in bringing these experiences to life, working closely with internal and external partners to ensure events are delivered efficiently and professionally.

The Role of an Event Manager at UW-Madison

The Event Manager will oversee all aspects of event operations, from planning timelines and logistics to budgeting and vendor management. This role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to think critically and strategically to solve problems. The ideal candidate will thrive in a deadline-driven environment and have a keen eye for detail.

Key responsibilities include monitoring budgets, establishing relationships with stakeholders, and executing day-to-day operational functions. The Event Manager may also provide supervision to event planning staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of event planning processes. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support event delivery.

Key Job Responsibilities

The Event Manager will be responsible for identifying, proposing, and implementing new or revised unit operational policies and procedures. They will establish and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that events align with the organization’s goals. The role also involves approving expenditures and managing event planning staff.

Qualifications and Benefits

To qualify for this position, candidates must have at least 3 years of experience in in-person and event planning and management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Preferred qualifications include experience planning hybrid events, using registration management software, and following established policies and procedures to purchase goods and services. An interest or background in the arts, health, and/or education is also valued.

The position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance, tax-advantaged savings accounts, and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a minimum of $60,000.
