Finds gun in car and accidentally shoots himself, Jarion dies at age 4 in front of younger siblings
The drama unfolded right in front of the eyes of the mother and siblings of the boy who was sitting in the back seats of the car parked on the street in the suburbs of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Jarion Walker, the boy’s name, died Saturday night at the hospital where he was rushed for a fatal gunshot wound to the head caused by the unattended weapon.
As reconstructed by local police, the little boy was sitting in the back seats along with two other younger siblings who unfortunately witnessed the horrific scene from inches away.
In the same cabin, but sitting in the front seats, were the mother and another adult who at the time had stopped with the car to smoke marijuana.
The Jefferson County Sheriff announced at a press conference Monday night that autopsy and ballistics tests determined that the fatal gunshot wound was self-inflicted by the boy with a gun held by his father but unattended.in the car by the man.
Rescue crews had been called to the scene at around 22:45 hours and once they arrived at the indicated location they found a child with what initially appeared to be a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Rushed to the hospital, unfortunately little Jarion did not survive and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
An autopsy immediately ordered by local authorities established that a shot fired from a pistol resting against the front of the head was fatal.
“We didn’t think it was possible for a four-year-old to use a gun like that and be able to shoot like that,” the sheriff explained, adding that the coroner explained that “a contact wound to the forehead, just above the right eyebrow.”
