A man was arrested after he was videotaped punching a 55-year-old Asian woman in the face in New York Chinatown on Monday, authorities said.

Alexander Wright, of Manhattan, was charged with a hate crime, battery and criminal possession of a controlled substance in connection with the “unprovoked” attack.

The woman was walking down Bayard Street shortly after 6 p.m. when a man walking in the opposite direction randomly punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground.

Footage shows several people on the road, who grab the woman who appears unconscious on the ground as the man walks away.

Authorities did not immediately release the victim’s identity. Wright was arrested of assault and taken to Bellevue Hospital for psychological qualification.

Efforts around to get Wright on the phone were unsuccessful Tuesday. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

The incident was the latest anti-Asian hate crime in the United States this year.

An analysis of hate crime data in late April found that the rise in anti-Asian attacks remained steady.

Research funded by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino, found that hate crimes increased 169 percent in 15 major cities in 15 years in 2021 in the first quarter 2021 comparison.
