The tranquility of a Brampton neighborhood was shattered early Tuesday morning when a violent home invasion unfolded near the intersection of Goreway Drive and Castlemore Road. The incident, which occurred around 4 a.m., has left authorities scrambling to gather information and apprehend the culprits.
According to Peel Regional Police multiple 911 calls alerted them to a disturbance at a residential address. Upon arrival, officers found a woman with a foot injury, which was later determined to be non-life-threatening. The victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident and the investigation
Initial reports suggest that at least two suspects gained entry to the residence, triggering a violent altercation. Const. Moulika Sharma of the Peel Regional Police stated that investigators believe multiple gunshots were fired inside the home. However, it remains unclear whether the woman’s injury was directly caused by gunfire.
The scene was swiftly secured, and police began canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. “Investigators believe, as of right now, with what information we have so far, that this is a targeted incident and there is no threat to public safety,” Sharma emphasized.
Search for suspects and evidence
As of now, descriptions of the suspects have not been finalized, and it is uncertain whether a getaway vehicle was used. Police are also investigating if any items were stolen during the incident. Sharma mentioned that there was one unrelated incident at the home “a long time ago,” but did not elaborate further.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to piece together the events of that early morning. The community is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
