The demographic that frequented his establishment—primarily elderly patrons—has been particularly affected. With sidewalks torn up and accessibility compromised, many are unable to navigate the area safely.
Brown estimates that his business has seen a staggering decline of 40 to 50 percent over the past six months. The noise and chaos of construction have also deterred customers from lingering, as noted by Asher Durkee from nearby cafe Projekt Blend.
“The sounds of machinery make it uncomfortable for customers to stay,” he said, highlighting the broader impact of the project on the local economy.

David Pollock, the director of engineering, parks, and environment, stated, “We understand the disruption to the community. However, we believe that once completed, this project will create a pedestrian-friendly environment that attracts more visitors.” The city has committed to keeping the project on budget and on schedule, with completion expected in early August.
