Heartache for a southwest Atlanta family whose senior is shot and killed just days before the ceremony.

Zechariah Guytons family said they left a house party in Lanvile in the early hours of Sunday morning when someone opened fire on the porch.

Guyton and a second person were shot, but the Senior Christian Academy life student did not survive. “He was set to graduate as you know this Saturday, and it’s very ironic that we have his funeral on the same day that had been his degree.” said Guyton’s aunt, Yneikia Toney.

The 19-year-old loved family, soccer and technology.

His family says he had fallen on hard times, but he flooded through adversity and was determined to graduate from high school.

His mother has made the painful decision to bury him in special clothing.

“He will wear his cap and gown at the funeral instead of a traditional suit and tie. That’s how he would want to be remembered, because that was one of his life’s goals…to graduate,” Toney said.

Kelvin Waters owns the school he attended and was one of his coaches.

“It hurts, especially for a kid who just wanted to go off to college to do something with his life. He came up short because of a senseless crime. It shouldn’t have happened.” Said Mr. Waters.
