Seven-month pregnant woman and baby shot to dead
Following the incident, police confirmed that the woman was taken to Einstein Medical Center. Police stated that the woman died at the hospital as a result of the gunshots. Doctors also failed to save her unborn child, who died ten minutes later, reports CNN.
Investigators of the incident have been underway since Sunday to clarify the perpetrator and motive for the murder.
Christine Coulter, deputy police commissioner of Philadelphia, said that the shooting took place around 20:30 hours on Saturday when the woman was returning from her son’s baby shower.
As the pregnant woman was unloading gifts from her Kia Soul to take inside her home at the intersection of Palmetto and Benner streets in the Lawncrest neighborhood, the individual or individuals fired the shots.
A police officer who was in the area heard gunshots and when he approached the scene he saw the woman outside her home with gunshot wounds to her head and stomach.
A neighbor in the area, Tom McDonald, said as reported by the above-mentioned media that his wife also heard the shots that killed the woman. The man described his neighbor as ”a good person on the street”.
Christine Coulter declared that ”the person who did this could not be more cowardly” and assured that ”it looks like someone was targeting her, looking for her”.
