Garson was made famous by his Sex and the City character, Stanford Blatch, thanks to his likable presence and incredible relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw on the series.

As Carrie’s best friend, Garson’s Stanford was considered a lovable character and fans of the series will sorely miss seeing Garson in the upcoming revival of As Is, for which Willie had reprised his role.

Garson also starred in a cameo on Friends as Ross’ neighbor Steve.

After hearing the terrible news of Garson’s passing, fellow castmate Cynthia Nixon wrote a heartfelt tribute to the star, “We are very, very saddened by the loss of @WillieGarson. We all loved him and adored working with him.”

In addition, Garson’s on-screen Sex and the City co-star, actor Mario Cantone, mourned his loss, writing, “I couldn’t have had a more brilliant TV partner.

I am devastated and overwhelmed with sadness. You were a gift from the gods. Rest my sweet friend. I love you”.

Actor Ben Stiller also used Twitter to express his grief over Willie’s passing and wrote a message for the late actor’s son saying, “Sending love to @WillieGarson’s son, Nathen.

Your father was strong and respected in his community of fellow actors and his philanthropy was constant and committed.”
