Two zoos in China, separated by more than 650 kilometers, have suffered a similar incident in just one week: two non-contiguous situations to which the Asian media have paid attention.

The first incident took place last Sunday, May 23, at Zhanggongshan Zoo in Bengbu, in the eastern province of Anhui.

Two days later, on Tuesday, May 25, another incident took place at a Chinese zoo, in this case in Xichuan County, Henan Province.

There, a 55-year-old zookeeper was attacked by a tiger while cleaning its cage.

The man, whose only known surname was Yang, had worked with these animals for 20 years without ever having any mishaps.

The zoo raised the alarm and police specialists arrived on the scene.

Although they tried to trap the two tigers with traps, and tried to shoot tranquilizer darts at them, they were unable to do so and decided to shoot them before they escaped into a nearby forest and posed a threat to the public.

The two tigers belonged to a circus located more than 600 kilometers from the zoo and had been rented for a performance at the zoo.

The zoo remains closed for the time being.

A few weeks ago, three leopards escaped from a zoo in Hangzhou, endangering the public, as the zoo did not raise the alarm for a week.
