Victim of serious financial problems, a young man literally put himself up for sale. With a sign written in pen and a promise to serve those who decided to “buy” him, Aliyu Na Idris, 26, ended up trending on social networks last week.

Young man had gone so far as to put himself up for sale due to his great poverty and was arrested

The young Nigerian Aliyu Na Idris was arrested by the Hisbah, the Islamic police, because in Islam it is forbidden to sell himself.

The Islamic police in Kano state, known as Hisbah, arrested him. “What he did is forbidden in Islam, you cannot try to sell yourself, whatever your status or situation,” Hisbah commander Hanur Ibn Sina told the BBC.

Because Aliyu Na Idrs had decided to put himself up for sale.

The boy, a tailor by profession, had put himself up for sale for 20 million Nigerian naira, about 41,000 euros. “The decision to sell myself was dictated by poverty,” he said.

“When I find a buyer I want to give my parents 10 million naira, pay 5 million naira in taxes to the state and give two million naira to whoever helped me find the buyer and keep the rest of the day-to-day management.”

Aliyu Na Idris had already tried to move to Kaduna, the capital of Nigeria, always with the certainty of a “buyer”, and then to go to Kano.

Several people had offered, but none had agreed to receive the sum requested by the boy.

Aware of the risks he would run, the young man said he was willing to face anything to get out of this uncomfortable situation.
