The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Texas have made a significant impact on border security with two major methamphetamine seizures totaling over $72.3 million in a single day. These operations highlight the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and the dedication of frontline officers in protecting the nation’s borders.
The first seizure occurred on June 19, 2026 at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo. A 2011 Dodge Ram stake bed truck, carrying a shipment labeled as polypropylene was referred for secondary inspection. Through the use of canine units and nonintrusive inspection systems officers discovered approximately 7,047.73 pounds of suspected methamphetamine hidden within the cargo. The street value of this seizure was estimated at $63,002,534.
Second major seizure at Pharr International Bridge
On the same day, another significant seizure took place at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility. A tractor-trailer arriving from Reynosa, Mexico was referred for secondary inspection after anomalies were detected using nonintrusive inspection equipment. A physical inspection revealed 193 packages of suspected methamphetamine, weighing a total of 1,042.78 pounds. The street value of this seizure was estimated at $9,321,884.
CBP’s commitment to border security
Donald R. Kusser Director of Field Operations for the Laredo Field Office, emphasized the importance of these seizures in underscoring the serious drug threat faced by border security officers. He stated, “These large-scale cargo methamphetamine seizures, both taken the same day at different ports of entry within the Laredo Field Office, underscore the serious drug threat our officers are facing as well as their resolve to stem the flow of this poison into the U.S.”
In both enforcement actions, CBP seized the narcotics and the vehicles involved. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents have initiated criminal investigations into these seizures. The operations were conducted under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin highlighting the ongoing efforts to enhance border security and facilitate lawful entry for legitimate travelers.
The success of these operations demonstrates the effectiveness of advanced inspection technologies and the expertise of CBP officers in detecting and intercepting illegal drug shipments. The seizures serve as a testament to the commitment of border security personnel in safeguarding the nation from the influx of dangerous substances.
