The highly anticipated return of Celebrity Traitors has been thrust into the spotlight after host Richard Osman accidentally revealed its premiere date during a live podcast recording. The BBC reality show which captivated audiences with its first season, is set to air its second installment on 23 September.
The revelation came during a live edition of The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, which Osman co-hosts with journalist Marina Hyde. The show was recorded at London’s Southbank Centre and featured special guest Joe Marler a finalist from the first season of Celebrity Traitors.
The Accidental Disclosure
During the podcast, Marler mentioned the upcoming series while offering advice to potential contestants, asking, “What is it, September 23, the next series?” Osman, seemingly caught off guard, responded, “By the way, to point out, it’s absolutely embargoed that it starts on September 23 … let’s talk about what we call the events of September 23 this year … the cat’s out of the bag isn’t it? Not to repeat it.”
Osman also shared that the new season “sounds like it was quite intense,” based on feedback from those involved in the production. Marler noted that the atmosphere this time around was noticeably different, with contestants approaching the game with a higher level of competitiveness from the start.
A New Batch of Celebrities
The second season of Celebrity Traitors will feature a fresh lineup of 21 celebrities, including Michael SheenMaya JamaBella RamseyJames Blunt and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. The contestants will compete for a cash prize of up to £100,000 for their chosen charities.
The show is set in a Scottish castle in the Highlands where the celebrity contestants, known as faithfuls must seek out the traitors among them. The traitors eliminate players in the middle of the night, adding a layer of suspense and intrigue to the game.
The Success of the First Season
The first season of Celebrity Traitors aired on the BBC last autumn, drawing a peak audience of 15.4 million viewers during its nail-biting finale.
