The University of Wisconsin-Madison is on the lookout for a creative and collaborative event photographer to join their Media Solutions team within the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). This role offers a unique opportunity to blend your artistic skills with a passion for medical research and community engagement storytelling.
The ideal candidate will bring a robust portfolio of event and environmental portrait photography along with expertise in Digital Asset Management (DAM). As part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a crucial role in creating inspiring and iconic brand imagery that supports the school’s strategic plan.
The Role and Responsibilities
This position is a blend of on-site and remote work, requiring some in-person attendance at designated campus locations. You’ll be responsible for capturing high-quality images of campus events using SMPH-provided Canon DSLR equipment. Your work will align with the creative vision of each project and adhere to SMPH brand guidelines.
Key responsibilities include managing digital assets using the Photoshelter platform scheduling photographic sessions, and collaborating with various campus departments. You’ll also need to stay current with the latest DAM technology and photography processing software to ensure high-quality results.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To excel in this role, you’ll need a minimum of three years of experience in event and commercial environmental portrait photography. Your portfolio should showcase a polished style with a unique approach to composition and technical expertise in lighting.
Proficiency in using Canon mirrorless DSLR systems portable lighting, and studio lighting is essential. You should also have three years of experience in managing photography post-production workflows, including image organization and color grading. Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and related image editing software is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within a creative services department in a higher education environment is a plus. Familiarity with Photo Shelter, Asana, and Microsoft 365 will be beneficial. Additionally, experience in photojournalism and knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies in photography and DAM processes are highly valued.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $60,000 to $73,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Employees can expect a comprehensive benefits package, including generous vacation, holidays, and sick leave; competitive insurance and savings accounts; and retirement benefits.
